JAKARTA – Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), responded to President Prabowo Subianto's decision to grant rehabilitation to the former President Director of PT Angkutan Sungai, Danau, and Penyelenggara (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Ira Puspadewi. He believes the President's move aligns with the public's sense of justice.

Abdullah stated that throughout the legal process, support for Ira came from the public and professionals, who considered the former ASDP CEO to be honest, professional, and without integrity issues in the case against her.

"The President's decision to grant rehabilitation is an important signal that the state is present to correct injustice. The public sees Mrs. Ira as a clean, professional figure, and this decision restores her honor," Abdullah told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 26.

He emphasized that the case should serve as momentum for law enforcement officials to undertake comprehensive reforms, particularly in distinguishing between corporate policies and criminal acts of corruption.

"Law enforcement officers should not be reckless. Not all business decisions that result in losses can be automatically considered criminal acts of corruption," the PKB legislator emphasized.

According to him, the corporate world has dynamics and risks that are not always linear, so a company's loss-making policy does not necessarily constitute a criminal act.

Abdullah believes a more cautious and proportional legal approach is needed in handling corporate cases to avoid hindering the professional management of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and other companies.

He hopes that Ira Puspadewi's rehabilitation will be an important lesson and a turning point for improving the legal system to be more just and objective.

"Professionals must be protected when they make decisions based on sound business analysis and governance. If every company loss is considered an indication of a crime, then no one will dare to make strategic decisions," he said.

Previously, President Prabowo signed a letter granting rehabilitation to three defendants, including former ASDP President Director Ira Puspadewi. The decision was announced by Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad during a press conference at the Palace on Tuesday.

As is known, Ira Puspadewi was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in the case of the acquisition of PT Jembatan Nusantara by PT ASDP.

Two other ASDP officials, M Yusuf Hadi, Director of Commercial and Services for the 2019–2024 period, and Harry Muhammad Adhi Caksono, Director of Planning and Development for the 2020–2024 period, were each sentenced to four years in prison.

The case involving Ira previously garnered considerable public attention. Now, the President's rehabilitation has restored the rights and reputations of all three.
