JAKARTA - President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Ukrainian leaders of "not showing gratitude" for the United States' efforts to end the war with Russia, blaming its predecessor for the conflict.

Ukraine's "leaders" have absolutely no gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia," he wrote on the Truth Social platform.

The Republican politician further claimed the war "would never have happened" with "strong and precise US and Ukrainian leadership" and said the war began in the "drowsy Joe Biden's government."

He argues that if the 2020 elections were not "cheated and stolen," there would be no Ukraine-Russia war, claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin "would never attack."

President Trump further said he "inherits a war that should never happen, a war that harms everyone, especially millions of people who have died in vain."

The comments came as senior US and Ukrainian officials were discussing in Geneva over the US peace plan containing 28 points.

The draft plan appears to require Ukraine to hand over additional territory to Russia, limit its military power and officially abandon its desire to become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Saying the proposal was not his "final offer", the President gave Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy until Thursday this week to give a response.

Meanwhile, President Zelensky said he faced a choice between "loss our dignity or the risk of losing key partners."

Earlier, leaders of nine European countries plus Japan, Canada and EU officials on Saturday expressed concern over the proposed restriction of the Ukrainian armed forces, warning it "would make Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks."
