The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it showed off Rp300 of the total Rp883 billion that was handed over to PT Taspen (Persero) for transparency reasons.
The handover of the confiscated money from the former Director was carried out at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta on Thursday, November 20. The activity was attended by the Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu and the President Director of PT Taspen (Persero), Rony Hanityo Aprianto.
"KPK shows the physical money as a form of transparency," said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo to reporters in a written statement, Friday, November 21.
The KPK also often shows this kind of evidence, Budi said. For example, after carrying out a hand arrest operation (OTT) or showing looted goods managed at the confiscation house (rupbasan).
"By showing the physicality of this money, it is also to convince the public, especially civil servants who are victims of this corruption crime, that the confiscation of assets in the form of money is not just a number, but there is really a form of money," he said.
Furthermore, Budi also emphasized that the money on display was not borrowed from banks such as narratives circulating in the community. "However, the money is indeed confiscated by the KPK which is deposited in a holding account," he explained.
"In the technical storage, the KPK makes deposits on confiscated goods and loot in the form of money to banks in holding accounts. The KPK does not store them in the Red and White Building or in the Rupbasan."
