JAKARTA - The European Union has stopped remittances to Ukraine following reports of corruption in the country, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto Thursday.
"There is a war mafia, a corrupt system working in Ukraine, and then the President of the European Commission, instead of stopping payments and demanding an immediate financial settlement, he instead wants to send another 100 billion to Ukraine. That's crazy," he said before a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
Szijjarto said Ukraine's current prospects were not positive.
"It's time not to side with Ukraine. To say that it's time to side with Ukraine is an illusion," he said.
He added that his country would support the peace initiative of United States President Donald Trump.
Earlier, two Ukrainian ministers entangled in a massive corruption investigation were sacked on Wednesday by parliament, who also called for broader measures to restore confidence in the country's leadership.
