JAKARTA - Britain warns Russia that its country is ready to face any potential attacks on its territory.
Defense Minister John Healey confirmed that after the Russian spy ship Yantar was detected on the edge of British waters north of Scotland.
"My message to Russia and Putin is: We see you. We know what you are doing," Healey said at a briefing in London, Wednesday, November 19, quoted by AFP.
Healey said the Russian ship had directed a laser to a British reconnaissance pilot who was monitoring its activities. He described the ship as part of a Russian fleet designed to harm underwater infrastructure.
"And if Yantar sailed south this week, we are ready," he said.
He added that this is not the first time Yantar has investigated the British defense. In January 2024, Yantar sailed through the British Strait.
After receiving a warning, the Russian ship then sailed towards the Mediterranean escorted by HMS Somerset, a frigate assigned to domestic defense in waters around the UK.
