2 Heads Of Industry Entangled In Corruption, Medan Walkot Doesn't Give Legal Aid

JAKARTA - The City Government (Pemkot) of Medan, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), stated that it did not provide legal assistance to two service heads who had stumbled upon the legal process related to allegations of corruption.

Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas said the legal process that befell his two staff was a lesson to enforce the law in Indonesia.

"Just follow the process. They have to follow the process. That this is a lesson for our legal space," said Rico Waas as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 17.

The mayor handed over the entire legal process of the two heads of offices to the relevant policy makers.

He believes that the entire legal process that ensnared his two staff will run professionally and well in accordance with applicable regulations.

"Of course we trust the prosecutor's office, that the prosecutor's office brings this legal process professionally," he said.

Regarding sanctions, Rico Waas emphasized that the local government had coordinated with the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) for further processing.

"We have submitted and consulted with BKN what the decision will be," he said.

The Medan District Attorney (Kejari) previously named three suspects in the alleged corruption case of the Medan Fashion Festival 2024 activity carried out by the Medan City Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry and Trade Office with a state loss value of around Rp1.13 billion.

The three suspects are BIN as Head of the Medan City Industry and Trade SME Cooperatives Office as Budget User (PA), ES as Secretary of the Office as well as Commitment Making Officer (PPK) who is now the Head of the Medan Transportation Agency, and MH as Director of CV Global Mandiri as the executor of the activity.

"After being named suspects, BIN and MH were immediately detained at the Tanjung Gusta Medan Detention Center for the next 20 days," said Medan Kajari Fajar Syah Putra.
