Floods Inundate 3 Districts In Buol, Nearly 300 Affected Residents

PALU - Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that four villages in Buol Regency were flooded after heavy rainfall flushed the area on Sunday, November 16.

Head of BPBD Central Sulawesi Akris Fattah Yunus said floods hit three sub-districts in Buol Regency.

"Flooding occurred in two villages in Bokat District, namely Poongan Village and Tikopo Village, then Inalan Village in Bunobogu District, and Potangoan Village in Bukal District," he said, quoted from Antara, Monday, November 16.

Akris explained that the high intensity of rain made small rivers unable to accommodate water discharge from mountainous areas.

The overflowing water flow then entered residential areas around the riverbanks.

After receiving the report, Central Sulawesi BPBD together with the Buol BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) and village officials conducted an assessment and coordination for initial handling.

Based on temporary data, as many as 96 families (KK) or 297 people including 12 toddlers were affected by flooding in Tikopo Village. Meanwhile, data collection for Poongan, Inalatan, and Pomangoan villages is still ongoing. There were no reports of casualties or displaced residents.

Akris menyebut kebutuhan mendesak saat ini mencakup logistik penanggulangan bencana, normalisasi sungai, air bersih, serta bantuan sembako. Sejumlah rumah warga masih terendam banjir.

Akris said the current urgent needs include logistics for disaster management, river normalization, clean water, and basic food assistance. A number of houses are still flooded.
