JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung received the award of the Sebayang clan from the people of Karo. The embedding of this honorary clan was given in a gathering and meeting of the people of Karo in Cibubur, Depok City.

In front of a number of Karo residents, Pramono expressed his gratitude for the acceptance. He called the procession of appointment of this clan a very meaningful moment for himself and his family.

"This is an extraordinary honor for me and my family, because today I officially became part of the Karo extended family with the Sebayang clan. This atmosphere of togetherness made me feel like I was at home alone," said Pramono, Sunday, November 16.

Pramono alluded to the values of Karo's culture, which according to him has a close relationship with Betawi culture, especially regarding openness and inclusive attitudes. He considered the people of Karo to have a strong tradition of accepting anyone sincerely.

"History notes that the issue of intolerance has never grown in the people of Karo during customs and the value of life is upheld together," he said.

Pramono also highlighted the character of the people of Karo who are known to be hard-working, disciplined, and uphold honor. He said that this value was an example that inspired him in carrying out the mandate to lead Jakarta.

"The respect I receive through the Sebayang clan is very meaningful, because I understand how high the value of discipline, hard work, and responsibility in the people of Karo. They have played a major role in supporting the development of Jakarta," he said.

Furthermore, Pramono emphasized the importance of the value of the Sitelu Rakat or philosophy which became the foundation of relations and brotherhood in the Karo community. Pramono linked this value to moral responsibility after he was pinned by the clan.

"I am now part of the Sebayang family. In the Sitelu Rakat, I am also bound by these values. I promise not to disappoint ladies and gentlemen," said Pramono.

Pramono also recalled a number of Karo figures he had known, including the late Sembiring Meliala, his colleague at the Indonesian House of Representatives in 1999.

"He is a simple but strong example of how the character of the Karo people is formed, firm, guided, brave, but still warm and full of humor," he added.
