SORONG The West Papua High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) examined the former chairman of the Sorong City House of Representatives (DPRK) as a witness in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of office stationery (ATK) for the 2017 fiscal year, which allegedly caused state losses of Rp4.1 billion.

Assistant for Special Crimes at the West Papua Prosecutor's Office, Agustiawan Umar, confirmed the examination.

"It's true, there was an examination of one member of the council, including the former chairman of the Sorong City DPRK," Agustiawan said in Sorong, Antara, Thursday, November 13.

The examination was carried out to deepen investigations and trace the involvement of various parties in the budgeting process to the realization of ATK spending in 2017.

"This examination is to clarify the budgeting process and its relation to the documents we have secured," he said.

In addition to examining witnesses, the investigative team also conducted searches at two government offices, namely the Legal Division of the Sorong City Regional Secretariat and the Sorong City Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD).

From the results of the search, investigators confiscated more than 20 important documents, including Regional Regulations on the 2017 APBD as well as Work Plans and Budget (RKA). The document is considered to have direct links to allegations of irregularities in the realization of goods and services expenditures within the Sorong City Government.

"We are trying to uncover this case clearly. We will ask all parties who are considered aware of the budget process," said Agustiawan.

The alleged corruption case in the procurement of ATK at BPKAD Sorong City had previously dragged three former officials with the initials HJT, BEPM, and JJR as suspects.
