Indonesia-Australia Security Treaty, Strengthen Military Consultation And Joint Strategy

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - Presiden Prabowo Subianto dan Perdana Menteri Australia Anthony Albanese secara resmi mengumumkan penyelesaian substantial Perjanjian Keamanan Bilateral Indonesia-Australia dalam konferensi pers bersama di Sydney, Rabu, 12 November.

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that this agreement was not just a diplomatic step but a manifestation of the commitment of the two countries to strengthen defense cooperation and maintain the stability of the Indo-Pacific region.

President Prabowo Subianto added that good relations between neighboring countries became the foundation of lasting peace in line with the values of Indonesian culture regarding the importance of helping each other.

President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the Australian Government's warm welcome during its inaugural state visit.

Meanwhile, Albanese called this agreement a new era of more comprehensive security cooperation between the two countries. Albanese said the agreement shows joint determination with Indonesia and Australia to maintain regional peace and stability by acting together.

The agreement, according to Albanese, strengthens the basis of previously established cooperation, including Suharto's Security Treaty (1995), Lombok Treaty (2006), and Defense Cooperation Agreement (2024).

In addition, this agreement also encourages routine consultations at the leadership and ministerial level in formulating joint policies to face regional security challenges.

The official signing of the agreement is scheduled to take place in Indonesia in January 2026, after going through domestic processes in each country.
