JAKARTA - At least eight people died after a private car exploded in the parking area of the mosque near Red Benteng, New Delhi, India.

Citing the Hindustan Times, the Indian police said on Tuesday 11 November that an investigation was underway to find out the cause of the explosion.

The death toll including three people in the white hatchback type car exploded at around 16.00 local time on Monday.

Investigators said the car had been parked for nearly two hours in the parking area of the Sunehri Mosque before the explosion.

Police have tracked the car's last move. A number of CCTV footage around the crime scene have been collected.

According to CCTV footage, three passengers were seen driving from Daryaganj Market to the Sunehri Mosque parking area near Benteng Merah yesterday afternoon.

Nearly two hours later, the car was spotted coming out of the parking lot, turning around near Old Delhi Railway Station, and headed for Lower Subhash Marg, moments before it exploded.
