JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that President Vladimir Putin's order to prepare a proposal regarding the feasibility of the start of nuclear testing preparations is being discussed by the Russian government.
"Regarding the instructions given by President Putin at the Security Council meeting on November 5, the instruction has been received for implementation and is currently being processed," Lavrov told reporters, Saturday (8/11).
Lavrov said that until now Russia had not received an official explanation via diplomatic channels regarding US President Donald Trump's statement announcing the resumption of the nuclear test by the US.
"Comments from Washington officials that have been circulating in the public show that they themselves do not have the same understanding of what the US president really means," he said.
According to Lavrov, it remains unclear whether Trump is referring to nuclear weapons carrier testing or a subcritical trial, namely trials that use fissile materials such as plutonium without causing a sustainable nuclear chain reaction as in nuclear explosions.

Earlier, on Sunday (2/11), Trump stated that the US needed to re-examine nuclear tests because other countries were doing so too, and he didn't want the US to be left behind.
Trump specifically referred to the trials carried out by Russia, North Korea, and allegedly by China.
The US leader's remarks were made just days after he announced plans to restart US nuclear tests on the grounds that there were allegations of similar activity by other nuclear countries.
