MEDAN - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said Medan City is the city with the highest Digital Competitiveness Index (DCI) nationally outside Java.

"Nationally, Medan City is ranked seventh, of which six cities above it are all on the island of Java," said Meutya Hafid at the launch of the Garuda Spark program in Medan, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, November 8.

He said Medan City outperformed Depok City, Bengkulu City, and Semarang City which were ranked eighth to tenth.

While the first to sixth places are on the island of Java, namely DKI Jakarta, Bandung, South Tangerang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Malang.

"The seventh place from hundreds of regencies/cities is extraordinary," he said.

DCI itself is a method to map the digital competitiveness of an area, which can refer to the East Ventures' Digital Competitiveness Index (EV-DCI) in Indonesia or a similar index at the global level. EV-DCI specifically measures digital competitiveness through three sub-indexes (input, output, support), nine pillars, and 50 indicators to assess the development of the digital economy.

According to Meutya Hafid, this achievement must continue to be improved by the city government so that Medan becomes one of the cities that has extraordinary potential.

"We hope to continue to maintain these proud achievements," he said.

Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas said the achievement was the local government's capital to be even better, including in the digital world.

"The point is we have to be better prepared," he said.
