JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Praswad Nugraha, assessed that the fire at the house of the Medan Corruption Court Judge, Khamazaro Waruwu, had to be thoroughly investigated. This incident is suspected to be a form of terror against law enforcers.

It is known that Khazamaro Waruwu's house in Medan Selayang caught fire on Tuesday, November 4.

This fire coincided when he was the judge in the corruption case of a road construction project worth Rp231 billion which dragged the name of the former Head of PUPR Topan Ginting or known as someone close to the Governor of North Sumatra Bobby Nasution.

"This incident cannot be considered just a coincidence. This is a real form of terror against law enforcers, terror against corruption eradication fighters," Praswad said in a written statement, Friday, November 7.

Praswad said Khazamaro was a critical and brave person while chairing the trial. The proof is that he highlighted the shift in the 2024 North Sumatra APBD budget which is the basis for road construction whose value reaches hundreds of billions of rupiah.

"As well as asking North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution to be presented at the trial to explain the legal basis of the Governor Regulation which is the basis for the shift in the budget," he said.

"This action shows the courage of a judge in upholding the principle of equality before the law, that no party is above the law, even if it has great political power," continued Praswad.

Thus, the state must be present to resolve the alleged pressure that occurred on the judge. "The police must thoroughly investigate the source of the fire and ensure that there is no intentional element behind this incident," he said.

According to him, this fire incident should not become an obstacle to enforcing the law in the country.

"KPK and the Supreme Court also need to ensure comprehensive protection for judges who examine major corruption cases with high risk, so that they do not work in fear," concluded Praswad.
