Puan Will Follow Up On MKD's Decision On Alleged Violations Of The Code Of Ethics Of DPR Members

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, respects the decision of the Honorary Council (MKD) regarding alleged violations of the code of ethics against five members of the council. Puan stated that the leadership of the DPR would follow up on the decision.

"Yes, we respect the decision of the MKD, and we will follow up on what became the decision," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.

Puan also responded to the MKD's decision regarding the Deputy Speaker of the DPR from the Golkar faction, Adies Kadir, who was not proven to have violated the code of ethics and was allowed to be active again in parliament. Puan admitted that she would first discuss with all DPR leaders.

"We'll see first what the decision was like yesterday and today there is no agenda yet. Therefore, maybe I will talk first with other leaders regarding the newly decided MKD decision," said Puan.

Previously, MKD decided that Deputy Speaker of the DPR Adies Kadir was not proven to have violated the code of ethics. However, MKD reminded Adies Kadir to be more careful in conveying information during an interview session with the media crew.

Apart from Adies, a member of the DPR from the PAN faction, Uya Kuya, was also declared not to have violated the code of ethics. Unlike Adies and Uya Kuya, members of the DPR from the Nasdem Party faction, Nafa Urbach and Ahmad Sahroni were declared to have violated ethics.

Therefore, Nafa Urbach was sanctioned in the form of deactivation as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for three months. Meanwhile Sahroni for 6 months.

DPR member from the PAN faction Eko Patrio was also declared to have violated ethics and was disabled for 4 months. MKD also decided that all members of the DPR did not get financial rights while they were disabled.

The Constitutional Court's decision was taken after considering statements from the witness of the Deputy for Trial of the Indonesian House of Representatives Secretariat General Suprihartini, the orchestra coordinator at the annual trial of Lt. Col. Suwarko, a criminologist, Prof. Dr. Adrianus Eliasta, legal expert Dr. Satya Arinanto, sociologist Trubus Rahardiansyah, behavioral analyst Gusti Aju Dewi, and Deputy Parliamentary Journalist Coordinator Erwin Siregar in a hearing held on Monday, November 3.
