Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) explained two main strategies discussed in a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto and a number of ministers to accelerate poverty reduction.
"Today we are continuing a limited meeting in the field of community empowerment. One of the important points is to overcome poverty alleviation by breaking the poverty chain through two strategy schemes," said Cak Imin at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 5.
He explained that the first strategy focuses on the education sector which is directed to break the chain of poverty through increasing access and quality of education, including the development of people's schools.
The government, he said, will also strengthen the synergy between the education and employment sector so that school graduates can be better prepared to face the challenges of the world of work.
Cak Imin said the second strategy focuses on empowering the community through increasing work competence. The government will increase vocational training for high school and vocational school graduates so that they are absorbed more quickly in the world of work, both at home and abroad.
"We will involve state training centers, government owns, and private work training centers to be absorbed with the needs of the labor market," he said.
In addition, Cak Imin also conveyed that President Prabowo gave directions for revitalizing vocational schools with a curriculum that is oriented towards job readiness, as well as encouraging investment through the state budget to increase students' vocational skills capacity.
"Including, the President asked that apart from Indonesian, English, Arabic foreign languages be one of the obligations for schools to implement," he said.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno added that the education sector will be a top priority in poverty alleviation programs.
These efforts were made through strengthening vocational education that was adjusted to the needs of the labor market, both domestically and abroad.
"So, how do we match between supply parties in the education sector and demand side in the labor sector, both domestic and foreign workers. So, this prepares workers to meet domestic needs, both at the lower and high level of technology, as well as for migrant workers," said Pratikno.
"Including being part of the preparation of language skills, getting to know culture, in addition to technical capabilities, and this is done synergically, involving a lot of ministries because this does not speak from the supply side in the education sector, but also the demand side in the labor sector. The most important assignment was part of poverty alleviation," he added.
