JAKARTA - The death toll from a nursing home fire in Tuzla, northern Bosnia, has risen to 11 people. The other 30 people were injured.

A fire hit the seventh floor in the nine-story building on Tuesday night. The flames and smoke soared high from the upper floors in the fire which is still being investigated.

Local media reported that many of the dead were people with disabilities. Meanwhile, those who were rescued were transferred by an emergency crew from the upper floor to the lower floors. Some of the injured were in critical condition.

Reported by Reuters, the identification of the victims will begin Wednesday, November 5 evening, and investigations into the cause of the fire will begin once conditions allow, police said.

"The authorities are taking all necessary measures to uncover the conditions that caused this tragic event," the nursing home said in a statement.

The government of the Republic of Srpska, Republic of Serbia, one of two Bosnian and Herzegovina entities, offered Tuzla assistance.

"We express our condolences and are always ready to help," Serbian Prime Minister Savo Minic wrote on his X account.
