6 Semarang UIN Students Reported Drifting In Kendal River

Semarang - A total of six students participating in the Real Work Lecture (KKN) of the State Islamic University (UIN) Semarang were reportedly swept away in the Jolinggo River, Kendal Regency, Central Java, Tuesday.

Kendal Police Chief AKBP Hendry Sianipar confirmed the unfortunate incident.

"That's right, there are students who were swept away. We are focusing on helping the search," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 4.

However, he stated that he could not confirm the condition of the victim who was suspected of being swept away due to the suddenly growing river current.

He said the progress of the search for victims would be conveyed after data in the field was obtained.

Based on the information gathered, the incident that occurred at around 13.53 WIB began when a number of students were playing water in the Genting Jalinggo tubing in Singorojo District, Kendal Regency.

At the time of the incident, the condition of the river current was quite strong due to heavy rains in the upstream part.

Joint SAR officers are still searching for the six Semarang UIN students.
