DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly inspected the Baswedan Embankment in the Jatipadang area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, which collapsed due to heavy rains on Thursday night, October 30.
"I saw this embankment when it rained on October 30, last Thursday. Indeed, the rainfall was quite high and then there was flooding everywhere due to the collapsed embankment," Pramono said after a review, Tuesday, November 4.
After observing the condition of PHB Pulo flow at the collapsed embankment point, Pramono revealed that he would prioritize repairing embankments as a short-term handling. Pramono also prepared steps for the construction of reservoirs and flats in the area as a long-term solution.
Pramono said that the repair of the 40 meter long embankment would soon be carried out so that residents around it would be flooded due to river runoff during heavy rains. According to him, the damage in Baswedan Embankment caused water to overflow into residential areas along the rivers Pulo and Krukut rivers.
"In the short term, we will repair the collapsed embankment. Approximately how many meters? 40 meters. So that what has been used so far or felt by the community will return," said Pramono.
In addition to repairing the embankment, Pramono emphasized that the government will organize the Jatipadang area as a water catchment area that is integrated with the construction of new infrastructure. He said there is at least seven hectares of land around the location to be developed.

"Because this area is a catchment area and this is also one of the estuaries of the Krukut River, yes, it must be handled in a medium-long manner," said Pramono.
The plan is that the area will function doublely, namely as a flood control reservoir as well as a vertical residential area and public space. "For that, approximately here there is an area of 7 hectares. And the 7 hectares of area can become a catchment area as well as a flat and also a recreation area. What is clear is that we will immediately build this reservoir," he continued.
Pramono added that dredging mud in the Krukut River at the location was not enough to hold back the volume of water in the area. Thus, comprehensive water management is needed.
"Indeed, whatever the position wants to be dredged up because this is the place in the catchment area, it will definitely happen again. Thus, the handling is really carried out not only partially, but thoroughly," he added.
