Prabowo: A400M Aircraft Strengthens Indonesia's Defense System And Supports Indonesian Humanitarian Missions

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto assessed that the presence of Airbus A400M transport aircraft will strengthen Indonesia's air defense system while increasing the TNI's ability to carry out various humanitarian missions.

"Alhamdulillah, the important defense equipment has started to arrive. I think the A400 will increase our capabilities," said Prabowo at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Antara, Monday, November 3.

The President also gave directions for the A400M aircraft to be equipped with air ambulance modules and equipment for handling forest fires.

According to Prabowo, air power has an important role, not only to maintain national defense, but also to deal with disasters and support national development.

"Now we are building the TNI to be more effective. Not only protecting the region, but also securing and supporting national development," Prabowo said.

He added that Indonesia's vast territory consisting of thousands of islands demands a strong air fleet to support national strategic interests.

Prabowo explained that Indonesia currently has two active Airbus A400M aircraft, with the option of purchasing four additional units that are currently in the negotiation process.

"We are already active with two units. We have four more options, and maybe we will sign them for an additional four units," he said.

The A400M aircraft can also function as air tankers according to TNI's operational needs.

On this occasion, President Prabowo led the procession for receiving Airbus' first A400M unit at the Base Ops apron at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base. Pesawat A400M TNI AU memiliki panjang 45,1 meter, lebar 42,2 meter, dan tinggi 14,7 meter. Pesawat itu mampu mengangkut muatan hingga 37 ton atau 116 personel, dengan empat mesin turboprop Europrop TP400-D6 yang memungkinkan terbang hingga kecepatan 780 kilometer per jam dan daya jelajah 8.900 kilometer.

The A400M Indonesian Air Force aircraft is 45.1 meters long, 42.2 meters wide, and 14.7 meters high. The aircraft is capable of carrying loads of up to 37 tons or 116 personnel, with four Europrop TP400-D6 turboprop engines that allow flying up to 780 kilometers per hour and a cruising range of 8,900 kilometers.
