PDIP Rejects Suharto To Become A National Hero, Hasto Unloads Megawati's Message!

BLITAR - Secretary-General of the PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto, emphasized that his party refused to award the title of national hero without in-depth consideration, including the discourse of simplifying the title to former President Suharto.

Hasto made this statement after accompanying the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the General Chair of the PDI-P, Megawati Soekarnoputri, on a pilgrimage to the grave of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir Soekarno, in Blitar, East Java, Saturday, November 1.

According to Hasto, the PDI-P adheres to Megawati's message so that the title of a national hero is not given easily and must pay attention to the historical track record and human values of the person concerned.

PDI Perjuangan heard a lot of input from civil society and academics who provided notes about human pride and past violations. Even Prof Mahfud MD while serving as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also touched on human rights issues. All of this is a serious concern for us," said Hasto.

He emphasized that Megawati assessed that the title of hero is a symbol of noble value and integrity, not just a formal status.

"Pahlawan is a figure who fights for independence and human values, not one who has betrayed his own people," said Hasto.

Hasto added that a true hero must be a moral and inspirational role model for all the nation's children. Therefore, the awarding of the title of hero must consider the voices of the people, record of struggle, and real contributions to humanity and social justice.

"Mother Mega's message is very clear, title of hero is a form of the highest respect for the country, and only deserves to be given to those who are loyal to the values of universal independence and humanity," he concluded.
