JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping has encouraged Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to comply and carry out clear provisions regarding key issues to ensure that the foundations of China-Japan relations are not damaged or shaky.

Xi insists that the two countries adhere to and implement clear provisions on major issues such as history and Taiwan, as stated in four political documents between China and Japan, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

He also urged Tokyo to uphold the spirit of Murayama's statement reflecting recognition of the history of Japanese aggression and containing apologies to victims' countries.

The Chinese president called for the two countries to comprehensively implement political consensus in advancing mutually beneficial strategic relations, becoming partners, and not threatening each other, as well as making history a mirror and opening up the future.

Xi made this statement during a meeting between the two leaders in the city of Gyeongju, South Korea, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC).

Xi said China is ready to cooperate with Japan to build a constructive and stable relationship, in accordance with the demands of the new era, as well as strengthening mutually beneficial strategic relations.

He said China-Japan relations currently face both opportunities and challenges. Therefore, he hopes that Japan's new cabinet can form a correct understanding of China and stick to the great direction of peace, friendship, and cooperation between the two countries.

Xi also stressed the importance of maintaining mutually beneficial cooperation, including strengthening collaboration in high-tech manufacturing, digital economy, and finance, as well as jointly maintaining a multilateral trading system and ensuring a stable and smooth chain of industry and supply.

"Both countries must implement true multilateralism and encourage the formation of the Asia-Pacific community," Xi said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, November 1.

Takaichi called China an important neighboring country for Japan.

He said Japan and China bear great responsibility for peace and prosperity in the region and world.

Takaichi insists Japan will stick to the position set out in the 1972 Japan-China Joint Statement on the Taiwan issue.
