JAKARTA - The Jambi Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is conducting a search for the bear's whereabouts after attacking a rubber plantation farmer in Muaro Jambi Regency.
"Yes, there are reports of entry (from the public) through an integrated call center," said Head of the Jambi BKSDA Agung Nugroho as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 29.
According to Agung, currently a team from the Regional Conservation Section (SKW) of the two Jambi BKSDAs is going to the field to investigate community reports, after the animal-to-human conflict incident in Suka Damai Village, Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency.
The Head of Mestong Sub-district, Muaro Jambi Regency, Hermisyaputra, said that the incident occurred at around 09.00 WIB at RT 07. At that time, Sutini (the victim) was going to his rubber plantation. Unfortunately for him, in the middle of the journey a bear suddenly attacked.

When the incident took place, Sutini shouted for help, fortunately the screams were heard by her husband (Priyono) who was not far from the location.
After being driven away, the bear finally let go of its grip and immediately walked away from the victim.
As a result of the incident, the victim (50) suffered serious injuries to his thighs, body and face. After that, residents took the victim to a hospital in Jambi City for intensive treatment.
According to Hermisyaputra, the bear conflict with humans has occurred twice in the last two years.
He suspected that the conflict was triggered by forest cover as a bear habitat starting to decrease, so the animal entered close to residential areas.
"The incident was already known by the BKSDA," explained the sub-district head.
