JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung ordered the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service (Distamhut) to cut down all old trees in Jakarta.

This was the aftermath of a fallen tree in the Pondok Indah area, South Jakarta which resulted in casualties.

"I asked for an old tree to be cut," said Pramono at Grogrol Petamburan, West Jakarta, Monday, October 27.

In addition, Pramono also asked Distamhut to install a buffer fence in all trees that were considered to be fragile. This is intended to prevent damage to public facilities and assets belonging to the community from falling trees every heavy rain and strong winds, such as a fallen tree that hit a Lexus car on Jalan Metro Pondok Indah, on Sunday, October 26,

"With this incident, I have decided, I have ordered Pak Fajar (Head of Distamhut) to be handled immediately, maybe there are 5,000 trees that need triggers or buffers. Otherwise, this incident can happen again," he said.

Pramono also expressed his condolences to the car driver who died. Pramono admitted that he knew the 50-year-old victim personally.

The DKI Provincial Government offers compensation claims for victims. The assistance can be given a maximum of IDR 50 million for victims who died and a maximum of IDR 25 million for vehicle or building damage.

However, Pramono admitted that the victim's family refused to be given assistance because he was able to take care of the deceased's return independently.

"Because of this, I'm sorry, I died because I was hit by a tree, there were insurance and so on, which we will help to take care of. First, the deceased's family has decided not to use or the facilities we provide, but will be buried in the family grave in Bogor. Then for insurance and so on, it will be handled separately," said Pramono.

Separately, the Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forests Service (Distamhut), Fajar Sauri, revealed that his party had cut 62,161 trees at various green open space points (RTH) in five urban areas. The cutting activity is focused on green lanes, roadsides, road medians, and other public areas to minimize the risk of falling trees, especially entering the rainy season.

In addition to pruning, tree health checks are also carried out regularly.

As of October 2025, 5,722 trees had their health checked, including aspects of propagation, stem conditions, slope levels, to the suitability of the title width. This examination aims to ensure that the tree's condition remains safe, especially on the green route and along the road track which is dense in community activities.
