JAKARTA - The owner of the padel field in Taman Villa Meruya, Kembangan, West Jakarta dismissed allegations that the roof of the sports facility collapsed due to technical negligence by the management.

The owner of the Anwa Racquet Club, Wawa Lukman, said the incident occurred due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

"This is purely a disaster, not what we want. The rain is too big, so things happen that we don't want," said Wawa at the location, Sunday.

He also confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. In addition, his party has also evacuated match participants and spectators from the location.

"As soon as the incident happened, we immediately closed it. No one should enter. After the conditions were a bit calm, then we told the items inside to come out quickly, afraid something would happen," he said.

He was grateful that all the participants, including the athletes and spectators managed to get out safely.

"We are grateful that there were no injuries or casualties. That's the most important thing," he added.

Furthermore, Wawa said that his padel field had obtained official operational permits since opening four months ago.

"This place is licensed. Otherwise, it is impossible to stand this big and be used for national tournaments," he said.

His party will immediately evaluate the incident and improve the field structure so that similar incidents do not happen again.

Therefore, the field will be closed indefinitely.

"We will improve even stronger. Now it is still in the process of being investigated by the police, so we can't touch it yet. But for sure, we are responsible and will wake up again," he said.

Regarding the losses caused, Wawa was reluctant to reveal the exact value. However, he admitted that the cost of building the facility was quite large.

The value is big, because building it is also very expensive. But we are grateful that there were no victims. If money can be found, but life is difficult," he said.

He also thanked the committee of The Prime Open Tournament for remaining calm and cooperative after the incident.

"We appreciate the Prime committee, they are extraordinary. Even though they are sad, they are still heartened and do not confuse the atmosphere. We really appreciate that," added Wawa.
