2029 Election Design Must Be Prepared Early

JAKARTA - Deputy Secretary-General of the PKS DPP for Organizational Sector, Rahmat Saleh, hopes that the 2029 general election design (election) must be compiled from now on to produce higher quality and scientific research-based implementations.

According to him, strong democracy is not enough to only be carried out procedurally, but also requires a system that is fair, transparent, and data-based so that elections are not merely a five-year political ritual.

"If we want quality election results, then the system design must be research-based and cannot be separated from the decisions of the last Constitutional Court. Democracy is not only a matter of choosing, but also a matter of ensuring people's choices are translated into side policies," said Rahmat in a written statement, Sunday, October 26.

He stated that every political party has a moral responsibility to strengthen the foundation of democracy through institutional innovation and transparent governance. One of the key steps is to strengthen the synergy between political institutions and research institutions so that the direction of election policies is more measurable and objective.

"We must dare to see the weaknesses of our current electoral system. Starting from high political costs, weak party regeneration, to uneven political representations. All of this must be studied scientifically so that it can be improved with a proof-based approach," he explained.

Selain itu, Rahmat juga menekankan pentingnya pendidikan politik yang berkelanjutan bagi masyarakat.

Sebab, literasi politik yang rendah menjadi salah satu hambatan terbesar dalam mewujudkan demokrasi yang substantif.

“Demokrasi yang berkualitas berawal dari desain pemilu yang cerdas dan berbasis riset. Kita ingin sistem politik yang melahirkan pemimpin terbaik, bukan sekadar mereka yang pandai memainkan mekanisme,” tandasnya.

In addition, Rahmat also emphasized the importance of sustainable political education for the community.

This is because low political literacy is one of the biggest obstacles in realizing substantive democracy.

Quality democracy originated from an election design that was intelligent and research-based. We want the political system that gave birth to the best leader, not just those who are good at playing the mechanism," he said.
