Ojol Presidential Regulation Prepared, Government Targets To Publish As Soon As Possible

JAKARTA - The new rules regarding online motorcycle taxis (ojol) are being finalized by the government. Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said the regulation was most likely in the form of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) and was soon issued.

"Everything is being communicated," Prasetyo told reporters at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, Friday, October 24.

Praseto revealed that the draft rule was already in the State Secretariat.

"Yes, that's right from the draft. Then we studied it. Then there are things that still need to be communicated with all parties. We are looking for the best solution," he said.

Prasetyo said, the draft rule was prepared to continue President Prabowo Subianto's order in the Plenary Cabinet Session when summoning two giant ojol companies. The purpose of the drafting of the regulation is to reorganize the online transportation industry to be fairer, especially for drivers who have been in vulnerable positions.

Prasetyo revealed that the substance of the regulation includes various important aspects, including social protection for ojol drivers.

Meanwhile, regarding the form of the rules that are being drafted, he continued, it is most likely in the form of a Presidential Decree so that the drafting process is faster. "Maybe the Presidential Regulation. Let's be faster," he said.

He added that the drafting of the Presidential Regulation was accelerated with the target of completion this year. "Maybe, it's very possible," he said.

According to Prasetyo, the government will again hold a meeting with ojol applicators to discuss the regulation before it is finally ratified by the President.

"It's already there, there are still some that we still have to find a common ground. But in general, almost all of them," said Prasetyo.

Previously, MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman stated that the draft ojol rule was in the hands of the State Secretariat. Now, the finalization process is under the coordination of the Minister of State Secretary.
