JAKARTA - The Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, reported that Mount Ibu erupted again on Friday night by ejecting volcanic ash up to 600 meters high from the top of the mountain peak.

"The eruption at around 18:21 WIT with a column height of ash was observed as high as 600 meters," said PGA Ibu officer, Saum, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 24.

He explained that the eruption of Mount Ibu was seen in a column of gray to white ash, with moderate to thick intensity leaning towards the southwest.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of approximately 44 seconds," he said.

He said that currently the condition of the volcano as high as 1,325 meters above sea level (masl) is at Level II or Alert status.

Therefore, the community around Mount Ibu and visitors and tourists should not move within a radius of 2.0 kilometers and the sectoral expansion is 3.5 kilometers to the crater opening in the north of the active crater of Mount Ibu.

"If ash rains occur, people who are active outside the home are advised to use protection, such as masks and glasses, to avoid exposure to volcanic ash," said Saum.
