JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai asked Udayana University (Unud) Bali to take firm action against students suspected of being perpetrators of non-empathy speech in the case of the death of a FISIP student with the initials BAG (22).

During a meeting with the Chancellor of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana at the Sudirman Denpasar campus, Natalius revealed allegations of acts of nir-empati to bullying carried out by several parties over the BAG death incident.

"Indeed, there was acts of bullying against the deceased and those who carried out this bullying act are being investigated and asked for information," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 24.

Natalius explained that in responding to this action, the campus was guided by the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 55 of 2024 concerning Handling Cases of Violence in Higher Education.

This is done to fulfill the race of justice for victims and families who ask for justice for the death of BAT.

"The second victim must feel a sense of justice, only the third one must be felt publicly," he said.

He believes that the Chancellor of Udayana University, Ketut Sudarsana, will impose strict sanctions on students involved in committing acts of nirempati after the death of BAT. The decision, said Natalius, must also provide a sense of justice for victims, families, and publicly.

"I am sure that the Chancellor and the Udayana University academic community will make decisions that are fair to the victims, felt by the family, felt by the public," he said.

As Minister of Human Rights, Natalius also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims for the death of a BAT student. He hopes that no more similar actions will occur in the future.

He also asked the police to thoroughly investigate the case of BAT death in order to reveal whether there was a relationship between death and bullying experienced by BAG.

"I ask the police to really resolve it both with conventional investigations and scientific investigations so that the final result is whether there is a connection between death and bullying events. If not, then what causes death," said Natalius.
