JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, admitted that currently the burden of operational costs and Transjakarta services is getting higher. As a result, the cost recovery or return of operating costs is decreasing.

"We have conducted a study, even from the calculation of the Transportation Service, the cost recovery has decreased. From the previous average of 34-35 percent, now with price increases, inflation and so on, it remains at 14 percent," Syafrin told reporters, Friday, October 24.

Therefore, Syafrin acknowledged that the increase in Transjakarta tariffs was increasingly needed because the burden of transportation subsidies disbursed from the APBD was getting bigger. Moreover, Transjakarta rates have not increased since 20 years ago.

Meanwhile, the economic value of Transjakarta services per customer is IDR 15,000. So far, the DKI Provincial Government has budgeted a ticket subsidy of IDR 11,500. Thus, each passenger only pays a Transjakarta tariff of IDR 3,500 per road.

"Therefore, tariff adjustments are of course also needed to pursue so that cost recovery from an operational perspective can increase, at least we can maintain it to previous figures," said Syafrin.

Based on a previous study, the Transjakarta tariff is planned to increase by Rp. 1,500 to Rp. 5,000. However, Syafrin emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government has not decided on a new tariff if it later stipulates an increase.

"Not yet, I don't know," replied Syafrin.

Moreover, before DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stipulates an increase in Transjakarta rates, the DKI Provincial Government must first obtain approval from the DKI Jakarta DPRD. This mechanism refers to Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2014 concerning the Management of the Bus Rapid Transit System.

"So of course if there is a tariff adjustment, the governor will definitely write to the DPRD to apply for the tariff adjustment and it will be discussed. So we are waiting for the letter," he added.
