KLH Target Relocation Of Serang Residents Affected By Cesium-137 Completed By The End Of 2025

The Ministry of Environment (KLH) is targeting the relocation stage for residents of Cikande District, Serang Regency, Banten who were affected by the Cesium-137 radioactive exposure to completion in December 2025.

"Yes, God willing, it will be finished. We pray together that by the end of December it will be finished," said Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Tangerang, Friday, confiscated by Antara.

He said the relocation process for residents affected by this radioactive exposure had entered the second stage, aimed at protecting local residents from exposure to high radiation, as well as accelerating the process of decontaminating or cleaning substances.

"So far, as many as six locations have been successfully decontaminated," he said.

Until now, he said, there are still eight affected families (KK) who have not been moved and will be relocated in the second stage.

"Eight families are being discussed for relocation. Before decontamination," he said.

Deputy for Control of Pollution and Environmental Damage (PPKL) KLH Rasio Ridho Sani explained that 19 families or 63 people had been relocated in the first stage. The second phase of relocation will target eight other families with a total of 28 people.

"We have carried out the first phase of relocation for 19 families or 63 people in Kampung Barengkok, Sukatani Village. Now we are preparing the second phase of relocation for eight families with a total of 28 people," he said.

He explained that this relocation was only temporary until the area exposed to radioactiveity was declared safe by the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten).

"After it is clear and clean, the community can return. But now our focus is safety. We will not carry out the stripping process or material removal before the relocation is carried out," he said.
