JAKARTA - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government was still reviewing the possibility of using the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) to support the renovation of the Islamic boarding school (ponpes) building, taking into account the state's financial capabilities.
"Of course we see the ability of state finances, yes, in this case the state budget, when it comes to development processes it will be borne by the state budget," said Prasetyo as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 22.
Prasetyo said the government would first calculate and trade together to determine Islamic boarding schools that could potentially receive budget support.
According to him, the calculation will be carried out by the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Islamic Boarding Schools under the Ministry of Religion whose formation has been approved by President Prabowo Subianto.
"Later, with the establishment of the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools, we will try to calculate together and we will inventory together which status is possible," he said.
Regarding whether the renovation will be carried out to all Islamic boarding schools or only certain pesantren, Prasetyo said it was still in the process of being counted.
"That's exactly what we are currently identifying, we are verifying, we will see the data," he said.

Prasetyo also conveyed that the Government through the Ministry of Public Works began implementing training programs for students in various Islamic boarding schools in order to have basic knowledge in the fields of buildings, construction, and civil engineering.
The training aims so that students can play an active role in the construction and renovation of facilities in their respective Islamic boarding schools.
The government hopes that in the future there will be more students who have technical skills in building buildings according to security standards.
"Hopefully, when there are development processes in each Islamic boarding school, there are several students who have knowledge in terms of building buildings," said the Minister of State Secretary.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin stated that the government needed to help rebuild the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School which collapsed using the State Budget.
According to him, the use of the state budget, in this case, is carried out in an effort to create a sense of security and comfort in the teaching and learning process.
