Ancol Management Allegedly Uses Inheritance and Surah Alquran for The Sounds Project Promotion

JAKARTA - The alleged use of the Qur'an in a challenge to a liquor (miras) award at the The Sounds Project music festival, Ancol area, North Jakarta, has attracted attention and criticism. The Youth Anti-Corruption Caucus (KAMAKSI) activist organization urged the police to investigate the alleged activities and asked the parties concerned to provide clarification. KAMAKSI asked the police to investigate a number of parties who were considered to be related to the implementation of the activity, ranging from event organizers (EO), MC, Newport brand under the Orang Tua Group, to the Ancol area management. "One of them is the President Director of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk Syahmudrian Lubis is morally responsible for the controversy," said the General Chairman of the Youth Anti-Corruption Caucus (KAMAKSI) Joko Priyoski to reporters, Wednesday, August 12.

Joko Priyoski said that the activity not only had the potential to offend religious values, but also needed to be examined from the aspect of rules regarding the circulation and sale of alcoholic beverages in Jakarta. KAMAKSI said that the alleged activities needed to be clarified because they took place in the Ancol area which was managed by PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk, a company which is a BUMD of DKI Jakarta. KAMAKSI also highlighted a number of regional provisions regarding the control and supervision of alcoholic beverages. The organization asked the authorities to ensure whether the activity had a permit and met all applicable provisions. In addition to the aspect of rules regarding alcoholic beverages, KAMAKSI assessed that the use of religious elements in commercial promotional activities should be a serious concern. "If there is a violation of the law, the process must be carried out objectively and transparently. And most importantly, the management of Ancol must provide clarification on the activity," said Joko Priyoski.
