JAKARTA - A traffic accident involving two buses on one of Uganda's busiest highways killed 63 people and injured several others.

The accident occurred right after midnight on the highway between the capital Kamala and the city of Gulu.

Initial investigations showed the accident was caused by two buses arriving from the opposite direction and trying to overtake other vehicles, namely trucks and SUV cars.

"In the process, the two buses faced each other while maneuvering overtaking," the Ugandan Police said in a statement on X.

"63 people were killed, all passengers from the vehicle involved," the police said.
