Death Of Timothy Guncang Campus Unud: Rectorate Forms Of Special Investigation Team

JAKARTA - The Chancellor of Udayana University (Unud) Bali formed a special investigation team to trace the case of the death of a student named Timothy Anugrah Saputra (22), who is suspected of being a victim of bullying by his colleagues.

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto said the formation of the team was the first step on campus to reveal the facts behind the events that sparked public concern.

"The rector has formed a team to investigate, check what really happened," said Brian after attending a limited meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at his private residence, Kertanegara area, South Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, October 19.

In addition to forming an investigation team, the Unud rectorate also provides assistance to the families of the victims and related parties. Brian emphasized that the Ministry of Education and Technology will directly monitor the process of handling this case so that it runs transparently and fairly.

He assessed that the incident of the death of Unud students should be a reflection for all academic community to be more sensitive to the condition of students in the campus environment, especially those who face social or psychological pressure.

Many cases are closed in nature, even though that needs to be observed together. We want campuses to build atmospheres that care for each other and support each other," he said.

Timothy Anugrah Saputra, a student of the VII semester of the Unud Sociology Study Program, was found dead on Wednesday, October 15. He is suspected of experiencing severe psychological pressure due to bullying from his colleagues.

This case sparked a wave of sympathy and public anger, especially after a screenshot of WhatsApp group conversations circulated showing the victim was often used as a form of ridicule.

After the incident, a number of uploads appeared on social media harassing Timothy's death, which then sparked widespread criticism from netizens and added to the spotlight on the culture of bullying in the campus environment.
