JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will issue a governor regulation (pergub) that prohibits trade and consumption of dog and cat meat in Jakarta.
This was revealed by Pramono after receiving an audience from the Dog Meat Free Indonesia Coalition (DMFI). Pramono targets the governor's regulation to be issued next month and asks his subordinates to speed up their issuance.
"Hopefully within 1 month the governor's regulation will be completed, related to the prohibition on consumption, the trade in dog meat in Jakarta, and cats of course," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, October 13.
Pramono explained that the legal umbrella that underlies the ban on the sale and consumption of dog meat has also been mandated in Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food and Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Animal Husbandry and Health.
"Those two laws are the reference, hopefully Jakarta will be an example for this," said Pramono.

On the one hand, Pramono will also encourage the DKI Jakarta DPRD to issue regional regulations to strengthen regulations related to the ban in Jakarta. "Hopefully we will also welcome the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD," he continued.
Based on a report by the DMFI Coalition, several dog slaughterhouses were scattered in Jakarta, some of which were in Cawang and Cibubur. Pramono confirmed that he would take action against the location after the governor's regulation was issued.
"Later, when the governor's regulation is finished, of course the apparatus is owned by the local government, including the Satpol PP who will be tasked with checking in the field," he explained.
