Venezuela Requests UN Emergency Trial On US Military In Its Waters

JAKARTA - Venezuela sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting an emergency hearing related to US military activities in the Caribbean region.

The Venezuelan government accuses the US of trying to make changes to the regime in its country.

According to a report by Agencia Venezolana de Noticias, the letter was delivered through Venezuela's permanent representative for the United Nations, Samuel Moncada.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, October 10, in the letter, the government confirmed that the White House's move was aimed at replacement' in Venezuela, which is the main reason for the request for an emergency hearing by the UN Security Council.

The letter also highlighted the increased US military force called unprecedented' in the Caribbean region, with American troop positions just a few miles from Venezuela's coast.

The Venezuelan government said under President Donald Trump's administration the US had unilaterally imposed more than 1,000 sanctions on its country.

In addition, Venezuela accuses the US of trying to control its natural resources under the pretext of war against drugs', accompanied by allegations deemed unfounded.

The letter also accused US military action of violating the Tlatelolco Agreement, which makes Latin America a nuclear arms-free region, by placing nuclear submarines near Venezuela's coast.

In addition, the letter stated that there was an attack on fishing boats in the Caribbean Sea as well as a violation of Venezuela's sovereignty due to the deployment of the US military in the region.

Over time, the US military has reportedly carried out at least four attacks in the Caribbean Sea on ships suspected of carrying drugs in international waters off the coast of Venezuela.

The Caribbean is an archipelagic geographical area in the Caribbean Sea that stretches from Florida, USA, to northern parts of South America, including Venezuela.
