Tsunami Early Warning Sirine In Central Lombok Functions, BNPB: Mitigation Steps

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensures that the early Warning System (EWS) potential tsunami threats installed in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, remain functioning normally.

"We have intervened by installing tsunami series tools in areas close to the coast to anticipate the potential impact of natural disasters in Central Lombok in particular," said Director of Disaster Early Warning at BNPB Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan in Central Lombok, Friday, confiscated by Antara.

He said Indonesia is an area prone to floods, landslides, tsunamis and earthquakes, so several steps must be taken to anticipate the impact of potential disasters that can be caused.

"The name potential cannot be predicted when it will occur. But anticipatory steps must be taken from an early age," he said.

Therefore, with the siren system, it is hoped that it can reduce the risk of natural disasters that can be caused.

"At least it can reduce the death rate and damage from mitigation measures prepared," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Central Lombok BPBD Ridwan Ma'ruf said BNPB had installed tsunami warning EWS in the southern region of Central Lombok such as Mertak Village, Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Selong Belanak.

"There are three points installed in the southern coastal area of Central Lombok," he said.

He said the installed equipment is still being tested once a month, so that the system can be ensured to function normally in the event of a natural disaster.

"The system is still being tested once a month as an anticipatory measure," he said.
