JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto summoned several ranks such as Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman, Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Ferry Juliantono to the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday 9 October.

According to several ministers, they were summoned by President Prabowo to discuss the development of government programs related to food and the formation of fishing villages.

"(The meeting will discuss, red.) food, self-sufficiency in food," said Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman when met at the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, confiscated by Antara.

Amran arrived at the Palace at around 13.00 WIB. He walked to the inside area of the Palace with the Deputy Minister Sudaryono.

At the same location on a separate occasion, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that he would report on the development of the construction of the Fisherman Village, which is currently one of President Prabowo's priority programs.

"(The fishing village, ed.) is being worked on," said Sakti in response to reporters' questions when met before the meeting.

Then, Ferry Juliantono, who arrived after the Minister of Agriculture and the Deputy Minister, also confirmed the agenda for this afternoon's limited meeting to discuss food and fishing villages.

Food self-sufficiency is President Prabowo's priority program since the beginning of leading the government on October 20, 2024, meanwhile, Red and White Fishing Village (KNMP) is one of the programs announced by the government last month (15/9) along with four other programs. These five programs, including KNMP, are believed to be able to create jobs for the community, especially people on the coast, so as to help improve people's welfare.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, when announcing the five programs last month, explained that the Red and White Fishing Village would be built in 100 villages. "This year the target is 100 villages, it is hoped that they can absorb 8,645 workers. In the long term 4,000 points (fishing villages, ed.), can create 200,000 (workers, ed.)," said Airlangga.

Not only KNMP, other programs are directed to absorb labor, namely the Red and White Villages Cooperative, people's plantations, revitalization of ponds in Pantura, and modernization of fishing boats. The five programs are targeted to absorb up to more than 3 million workers.
