East Java Police Chief Orders Data Collection Of Islamic Boarding School Buildings

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto ordered all police ranks in his area to collect data and thoroughly check the Islamic boarding school (ponpes) building to prevent the recurrence of the collapse of Islamic boarding schools such as at the Al-Khpziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran, Sidoarjo, East Java.

"We emphasize that any development must have careful planning and supervision so that similar incidents do not happen again. Of the many buildings, there are still a number of huts that do not meet construction standards, and this is very concerning," said Nanang as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 8.

According to him, the safety of students and the community is a top priority. Therefore, the East Java Regional Police will collect data and re-check all Islamic boarding school buildings in East Java.

"We will take this step together with the local government, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and a team of experts to conduct a risk assessment or assessment of the feasibility of the building. If an unfit building is found, repairs or temporary closure will be carried out," he said.

In addition to the technical aspect, the East Java Police Chief also emphasized the commitment to law enforcement to parties who were negligent in the development process which resulted in casualties.

"Everyone has the same position before the law. Therefore, anyone who is proven responsible will be held accountable for the law in accordance with applicable regulations," said Nanang.

Inspector General Nanang said his party upholds the principle that Indonesia is a state of law. Therefore, the entire process of examination and prosecution will be carried out in a transparent manner and in accordance with applicable procedures.

He hopes that all parties, both the managers of the cottage, regional governments, and the community, can play an active role in ensuring that every religious education building meets construction safety standards.

"We hope that all parties improve the planning and supervision system so that the safety of students and the community is guaranteed," he said.

As of Wednesday (8/10/2025) at 19.00 WIB, the East Java Provincial Health Office reported that the number of Ambruk Building Victims at Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School reached 165 people and 5 body parts had not been identified.

The 160 victims include Inpatients (3 people), Patients have returned (100 people), the victims came home without needing treatment (1 person), and Died (61 people).
