DILI Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, met the Speaker of the Timor Parliament Leste Maria Fernanda Lay in Dili, Monday, October 6.

The warm meeting marked the determination of the two countries to strengthen cultural cooperation which has been a bridge to the friendship of the Indonesian people and Timor Leste.

"I appreciate the relationship that has been established between Timor Leste and Indonesia in various fields, especially through the leadership of His Majesty Maria Fernanda Lay, the first female parliamentary chairman in Timor Leste," said Fadli.

In the dialogue, Fadli recalled the role of parliamentary diplomacy that he had served as Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI (2019'2024), President of GOPAC (2015'2019), and Vice President of SEPAC (2023'2025). He assessed that Maria Fernanda Lay also had an important track record in the international arena while serving as Vice President of GOPAC (2012'2015).

This year is an important milestone, because we commemorate 23 years of diplomatic relations. Indonesia and Timor Leste are brothers and sisters related to history, language and culture. In the future, I hope that our cultural cooperation will be stronger," he said.

Fadli emphasized that cultural collaboration is not just ceremonial. He wants to expand concrete cooperation such as art exchange, preserving local traditions, to developing a culture-based creative industry. According to him, this step not only enriches the culture of the two nations, but also opens up new economic opportunities.

The meeting was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor Leste Okto Dorinus Manik and the Indonesian Embassy's Education and Culture Attache Dili Prof. Dr. Tasrifin Tahara.
