Foreign Minister Sugiono: Indonesia-Thailand Committed To Expanding Collaboration

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia and Thailand are committed to expanding collaboration, both in the region and at the global level.

This was said by Foreign Minister Sugiono when receiving his partial visit from Thailand's Foreign Minister, Sihasak Phuangketow, at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Monday.

On this occasion, the two foreign ministers discussed the follow-up to President Prabowo's official visit to Bangkok in May 2025, in which the two countries agreed to increase their relationship status to become a Strategic Partnership.

The Roadmap that is being drafted is expected to be the basis for the growth and economic resilience of the two countries, as well as strengthening strategic cooperation in the fields of security, social-culture, and development. Through this roadmap, Indonesia and Thailand are also committed to expanding collaboration at the regional and global levels," explained Foreign Minister Sugiono, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 7.

This meeting also discussed the importance of the two countries to explore the potential for new economic growth, including through the renewable energy sector, biotechnology, the creative economy, and the halal industry.

In addition to bilateral issues, the two ministers also exchanged views on the dynamics of the region, including the development of Thailand's relations. Cambodia, the Myanmar situation, and preparations for the 47th ASEAN Summit in October 2025.

Indonesia appreciates Thailand and Cambodia's steps in easing tensions at the border and affirming support for a peaceful settlement in accordance with ASEAN Charter principles.

Regarding Myanmar, the two countries emphasize the importance of an inclusive and sustainable peace process, which is based on the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus.

This meeting is an important momentum in strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation between the two countries, especially in the midst of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Thailand.

In the economic sector, Thailand is one of Indonesia's 10 main trading partners, with the value of bilateral trade reaching more than 17 billion US dollars by 2024. In addition, Thailand's total investment value in Indonesia in the last five years has almost reached 1.5 billion US dollars.

It is known, Foreign Minister Sihasak, was sworn in on September 19, 2025, making Indonesia the first destination country in his bilateral visit to the region. This confirms the close friendship between Indonesia and Thailand and the determination of the two countries to build a peaceful and prosperous region.
