Police Reform Committee Formed, Palace: Government Ready To Announce 9 Members This Week

Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said nine members of the National Police Reform Committee would be announced and sworn in at the Palace next week.

"Yes (a member of the Police Reform Committee) will be announced and inaugurated by the President this week," he told the media crew at Monas, Central Jakarta, Sunday, October 5.

Regarding the timing of the inauguration, he stated that he could not explain in detail. However, he said, the inauguration of the members would soon be held.

Previously, Prasetyo revealed that members of the National Police Reform Committee would be filled with a number of important figures who would later formulate police reform steps.

"The President's commitment, which is currently in the process for us, asks for the willingness of figures to join the committee," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, last Friday.

Prasetyo admitted that the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD was one of the figures invited to join the Police Reform Committee.

"Including one (Mahfud MD)," he said when asked by reporters.

Prasetyo emphasized that the formation of the National Police Reform Committee was part of Prabowo's commitment to follow-up to the aspirations of the community, including demands from the Nation Conscience Movement (GNB) which contained a number of national figures and interfaith leaders.
