DPR Leader Asks Ministry Of Public Works To Help Development Of Islamic Boarding Schools

JAKARTA - The DPR leadership asked the Ministry of Public Works (PU) to intervene to provide assistance to Islamic boarding schools that carry out construction.

This was said by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal in response to the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building which collapsed and claimed lives. Even so far, dozens of students are still being searched and cannot be evaluated.

"I was with other leaders of the DPR, maybe it will be discussed later, because this pesantren is a state institution presented by community groups, they are actually like this, don't they want to have a government presence, but so far there is a government or not? Here to supervise the development procedures, right?," said Cucun at the DPR building, Friday, October 3.

"Well, we have the Ministry of Public Works that takes care of the construction, why when there are developments, both the offices of general workers who understand civilian construction of buildings in the regions, both districts and cities, provinces, and the central government," he continued.

Cucun assessed that the role of kiai and ulama was very large, especially in helping the state educate the nation's life. Therefore, it is appropriate for the state to help kiai, including pesantren education infrastructure.

"They also, if they have to pay consultants, how much, but if the state participates in supervising, help, this was a question in the future, don't ask without being asked, when for example this pesantren knows there is a building, yes, when applying for the building permit, it has been entered there, it has been assisted by the kiai, we will supervise iron to, for example, below how much iron is needed for the construction of how many floors," said Cucun.

"So it is necessary, without being asked, the state must actually be present, because in terms of function, they present education, yes, helping the country. Now the state is only here to help them guide the development procedures in santren which so far have never existed," he concluded.
