Revision Of The National Education System Law Prepares The Same Rights, Sequivalent Islamic Boarding School Teachers With General Teachers

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI Lalu Hadrian Irfani conveyed the revision of Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System (Sisdiknas) emphasized a number of important points, one of which was regarding the equality of teacher rights.

Lalu mengatakan, seluruh guru, baik yang mengajar di sekolah umum maupun pesantren, diperhakan memperoleh hak yang sama, termasuk soal salary.

"Well, teachers or ustaz or kiai in Islamic boarding schools are the same status as teachers in public education. Because the status is the same, the rights will be given the same," said Lalu in a TVR120 broadcast which was followed in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, October 3.

In addition to the equality of teacher rights, the revision of the Sisdiknas Law also regulates the extension of the compulsory period of learning from 9 years to 13 years. The compulsory period includes one PAUD year, six elementary school years, three junior high school years, and three high school years.

Then said, the policy was taken to reduce the high number of school dropouts.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI Maria Yohana Esti Wijayanti emphasized that the academic paper for the revision of the Sisdiknas Law would be opened to the public.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti conveyed that the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is currently accommodating public input regarding matters that need to be regulated in the revision of the National Education System Law.

"We are still in the process of accommodating the aspirations of the people for the input manuscript of the Sisdiknas Bill which is an initiative from the DPR," said Mu'ti.

He added that the Ministry of Education and Culture acts as a supporting unit in ensuring that the revision of the law can be completed by 2025.

"This law is an initiative from the DPR. We are more of a unitary supporter to support how this law can be resolved this year because of priorities in the national legislation program (prolegnas)," said Mu'ti.
