JAKARTA - Russia supports every step to end the war in the Gaza Strip, Palestine hopes that the proposal initiated by US President Donald Trump can be implemented.

The White House announced a proposal for Gaza's peace of 20 points on Monday to end the latest conflict between the Palestinian militant group and Israel that broke out on October 7, 2023.

Speaking on the phone with Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said Russia supports "any move that will facilitate an end to bloodshed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Hopefully it will be revealed that the successful implementation of the new US initiative will allow a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, as well as the unrestricted supply of humanitarian aid to the region," the ministry said.

Moscow, he said, supports a solution that allows "the creation of an independent Palestinian State that coexists peacefully and harmoniously with Israel."

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov while speaking with reporters said, "Russia has always supported and welcomed any Trump attempts aimed at ending the current tragedy."

"And, of course, we want this plan to be carried out and help end various events in the Middle East peacefully," he added.

Russia has criticized Israel's military operations in Gaza over the past two years amid the increasingly close ties between Moscow and Iran.

Moscow itself has long insisted the two-state solution is the only way to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.
