Prabowo Targets To Build 2,000 Fishermen's Villages And Print 480,000 Hectares Of Rice Fields

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto targets to build fishermen's villages up to 2,000 locations, as well as produce new fields covering an area of 480 thousand hectares to improve the people's economy, especially farmers and fishermen.

The President said the 100 fishing villages that are currently underway will be increased to a minimum of 1,000 fishing villages by 2026, even a total of 2,000 fishing villages that have storage warehouses for fishery production.

"One fishing village consists of 2,000 fishermen. If there are 2,000 fishing villages, it means that 4 million fishermen with their wives and children means 16 million of our brothers and sisters, their income will increase," said President Prabowo as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 29.

The President explained that through fishing villages, local fishermen will be facilitated by a cold storage warehouse and dock to increase production results and maximize revenue.

Based on the results of a pilot fishing village in Biak, Papua, the fishermen's income has increased by 60-100 percent.

The President will also build 20 thousand hectares of ponds on the north coast (Pantura) of West Java as an initial stage projected to open 130 thousand new jobs.

In addition to cultivation and fishery, the Head of State will also expand the new rice fields printing program to reach 480 thousand hectares. Currently, the rice fields that have managed to reach 280 thousand hectares have an impact on increasing rice production in history.

Based on records, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) projects an increase in total rice production by 14.49 percent in January 'July 2025, reaching 21.76 million tons, with a record high of 13.95 million tons in January' April 2025.

On the other hand, the high production of rice makes Bulog lack storage warehouses. Therefore, the government has allocated a budget of IDR 5 trillion so that Bulog can build 100 new warehouses.

"Bulog will build 100 new warehouses each on 5 hectares of land, modern warehouses, and that they only need Rp5 trillion, due to savings from various leaks and corruption," said the President.
