JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta in collaboration with the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) continues to strengthen education and communication on cancer prevention as part of efforts to reduce the number of disease cases due to abnormal cell growth.

"Prevention of cancer is the responsibility of all of us. With cooperation and mutual concern, I believe we can reduce the number of cancer cases in Indonesia," said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno when opening the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) in East Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, September 27.

In his speech, Rano reminded that cancer prevention can be done through a healthy lifestyle, such as maintaining good nutrition, routine physical activities, managing stress, avoiding risk factors, building healthy social life, and getting enough rest.

"We cannot take cancer disease into our eyes. Therefore, education and prevention must be at the forefront of fighting cancer," he said.

In addition, vaccinations such as HPV to prevent cervical cancer are also important steps.

Another thing that is also important, continued Deputy Governor Rano, is early detection of cancer. This is because if cancer is found from the start and handled appropriately, then the chances of recovery are very large.

"The examination of pap smear and DNA HPV for cervical cancer, SADARI and mamography for breast cancer, and colon cancer must continue to be echoed as a public health program," said Rano.

On that occasion, he also highlighted the importance of procuring cancer drugs and supporting medical devices at affordable prices.

According to him, the government must ensure the availability of drugs and medical equipment such as pockets of stoma at prices that do not burden the community.

"Do not let patients be hampered because of high customs," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central YKI Organization, Hetty Andika Perkasa, added that his foundation unites its determination to fight cancer throughout the country.
