KPK Ready To Be Invited By Minister Of Finance To Pursue Tax Evaluation: We Optimize State Revenue

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) to pursue 200 tax evaders whose bills reached Rp60 trillion.

This was conveyed by the KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo when asked about the statement by the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadivewa who stated that he would take firm steps against tax evaders.

The Ministry of Finance said it had collaborated with various law enforcement agencies, such as the National Police, the Attorney General's Office and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as well as the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

"First, the KPK is certainly very open to synergizing and collaborating with anyone in the context of eradicating corruption," Budi told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, September 24.

"In this case, the Ministry of Finance, in particular related to how we optimize state revenues, especially from tax revenues," he added.

Budi said that the potential for corruption in the budget sector does not only occur related to budgeting and financing. Prosperous practices can also occur in revenue posts such as taxes, customs, and non-tax state revenues.

So, continued Budi, assistance and supervision need to be carried out so that state revenues can become optimal.

"Well, related to tax optimization, the KPK through coordination and supervision functions also intensively provides assistance and supervision, especially to local governments. How can friends in the local government be creative, can accelerate positively in an effort to optimize local tax revenues," he said.

Meanwhile, Purbaya said his efforts to pursue tax evaders would be carried out in the near future. They are believed to be unable to run away from their responsibilities.

"We have a list of 200 large taxpayers who have signed. We want to pursue and execute around Rp. 50 trillion to Rp. 60 trillion," Purbaya said as quoted by a number of media, Tuesday, September 23.

In addition to collecting tax arrears, there are other strategies that Purbaya has prepared. This includes encouraging economic activity through the 2025 Economic Package, improving the graffiti system, and eradicating illegal cigarettes.
