JAKARTA - The Jayawijaya Resort Police (Polres), Papua Mountains stated that there were 684 refugees from Yalimo Regency in Wamena.

Jayawijaya Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner I Wayan Laba said the rioting incident in Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains on September 16, 2025, the first batch of refugees began arriving to Wamena since September 17, 2025.

"According to data since the riots broke out in Yalimo, refugees have started coming to Wamena since September 17, 2025 in the morning or around 02.00 WIT," he said in Wamena, Tuesday, was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the refugees who came to Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency from 17-23 September 2025 were approximately 684 people.

"We data as many as four waves or groups of refugees who came to Wamena from 17 to 23 September 2025 to Wamena. Every time our refugees arrive, the police always try to provide the first service properly, such as providing food and checking health conditions," he said.

He explained that hundreds of refugees from various regions in Indonesia such as South Sulawesi, Java, Southeast Sulawesi, NTT and Maluku.

"They arrived at the Jayawijaya Police Headquarters and were immediately treated by providing food, checking health. After that they were immediately picked up by their families or harmony to stay with them temporarily," he said.

He added that logistical assistance and ready-to-eat food have been distributed by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) as well as the distribution of staples or bapok has also been distributed by the Papua Mountains Provincial Government (Pemprov) on Monday, September 22, 2025.

"We make sure that the assistance distributed through the heads of the Nusantara harmony can reach every refugee in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency according to the existing data," he said.
